Nicholas Brissey, DPM
Welcome to OrthoIllinois!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share a bit about my specialized practice at OrthoIllinois. I grew up in an Air Force family, experiencing many diverse and culturally enriching environments all over the world. As a result of my military upbringing, integrity, selfless service and excellence are core values that I inherited, along with a strong desire to serve my country. I decided to join the Army in 2000 and worked in military intelligence as a Chinese language, crypto-linguist. In 2002, while serving at the U.S. embassy in Beijing, I developed a foot condition that was successfully treated by a podiatrist. This experience piqued my interest in the field and ultimately led me to my career in healthcare today, along with an opportunity to serve in a different capacity.
Upon honorable discharge from the Army I decided to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, earning a degree in economics and completing pre-medical requirements. Following that, I attended Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago. After graduating I pursued surgical training in Orthoplastics along with advanced reconstruction of the foot and ankle at Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. This culminated in my selection as chief resident during my final year. During residency, I completed advanced rotations at OrthoIllinois, which included pediatrics, orthopedic trauma and advanced podiatric surgery in Rockford, where I trained under some of the same physicians that I now call colleagues. I have accepted a position at OrthoIllinois in Algonquin to expand its podiatric services in the area.
Within my podiatric practice I have a special interest in “minimally invasive” approaches and surgical fixation techniques that allow for immediate post-operative weight bearing, thus accelerating the healing process and decreasing post operative morbidity. I offer the full spectrum of podiatric surgical services and specialize in reconstruction of the foot and ankle as well as revision foot and ankle surgery. I practice evidence based, outcome oriented, patient centered, compassionate care that I would render any member of my own family.
Outside of my surgical practice I enjoy playing tennis and pickleball. I satisfy my artistic side by drawing, painting and playing the guitar. I wind down at the end of the day by listening to music and I always look forward to reading a good book. I relax with a fishing pole in hand, but, what I enjoy most of all, is spending time with friends and growing alongside my wonderful family. Today, I am married with a beautiful wife and wonderful children, and with a very large extended family settled in the Great Lakes region.
I am very proud to be a part of the OrthoIllinois team and am extremely happy to call northern Illinois home. And, by the way, I am multi-lingual, speaking English, Spanish and Chinese. So, come on in, kick off your shoes and let’s chat!
