Amrit Anand, MD, MS, PT, FACP
I welcome the opportunity to provide care for your arthritis or autoimmune condition and would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about myself. From a very young age I have, by nature, loved caring for people and their needs. I am originally from India, and during my early years I was exposed to healthcare as a career by my paternal grandfather, a medical practitioner. Coupled with my predilection for compassion and to help people, a future in healthcare intrigued me.
This early interest burgeoned through personal growth in my faith and through the influence of my Chicago-area paternal uncle who was also a physician. Following my undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa, I pursued advanced training in physical therapy at the University of Oklahoma and practiced as a licensed physical therapist for four years in the Chicago area. But my desire to help others led me to make a further change and I enrolled in medical school, ultimately earning my medical degree in 2004. I followed that achievement by completing a residency program in Internal Medicine.
It was during this residency program that I was exposed to the specialty of Rheumatology. This specialty held similar clinical similarity to my training in physical therapy and inspired me to pursue specialization in my practice. I returned to Iowa for Rheumatology fellowship training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Division of Allergy-Immunology and Rheumatology.
Now, as a board-certified Rheumatologist, I am committed to helping patients living with arthritic disorders and autoimmune diseases. I hold a special interest in musculoskeletal problems, Rheumatoid arthritis, and Vasculitis.
I believe in evidence-based medicine. I do not believe in “patching” problems with pain medications or other “Band-Aid” temporary solutions. My goal as a Rheumatologist is to get to the bottom of the issue at hand and following standards of care, prescribe state-of-the-art treatment to target autoimmune diseases with the goal of achieving remission. This approach results in greater patient outcomes and disease control in the long run, which in turn leads to greater quality of life.
Outside of my medical practice I enjoy music and being active through tennis, outdoor sports, hiking, and traveling. But most important to me is spending time with my family.
I look forward to meeting you and working together to bring you improved quality of life.
Sincerely,
Amrit Anand, MD
