Welcome to OrthoIllinois!

I hold a passion for helping improve people’s lives that took root while growing up in Marion, Ohio. My father was a physician and in my youth I was greatly influenced by his caring attitude toward treating patients and making a positive influence on their lives. His example strongly motivated and instilled in me a passion to follow in his career footsteps.

After graduating Cum Laude from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Sciences, I attended Northeast Ohio Medical University where I earned my medical degree. This was followed by an Internship at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio where I also completed my residency training. During this time I was exposed to all the various specialties within the field of medicine. I found myself most drawn to those that allowed me to care for a patient as a whole, rather than a single organ system.

Rheumatology attracted my attention as a specialty that addressed that desire. Arthritis and autoimmune diseases impact multiple parts of the body and can have a devastating effect on a patient’s quality of life. This specialty further appealed to me because it would allow me to also develop meaningful, long-lasting relationships with my patients due to the chronicity of these diseases.

Today, there are many great medication options that can significantly improve a patient’s day-to-day-life. In my practice I treat adult patients with many types of arthritis and autoimmune diseases, including osteoarthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, lupus, and osteoporosis. But I hold a special interest in rheumatoid arthritis and gout. As a physician, I believe in shared decision making. There can be many options for treating a condition, but ultimately the decision should be based on reviewing research evidence for effectiveness and the patient’s comfort level before determining together the best course.

When I am not practicing medicine I enjoy golfing, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends.

I look forward to the opportunity to work together with you to help you achieve a more pain free and better quality life.

Sincerely,
Jacqueline Kannan, MD
