Kevin Carlile, MD

Dr. Kevin Carlile, MD, is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon who grew up in Ohio and developed a keen interest in medicine from an early age. Influenced by his mother, a nurse, and inspired by his own experiences receiving treatment for sports-related injuries, Dr. Carlile decided during high school to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery. His early exposure to the medical field included working in hospital operating rooms during summers in high school and college, where he assisted with room preparation and observed surgeries. These formative experiences instilled in him a deep respect for the complexity and problem-solving required in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Carlile attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, earning his Bachelor of Science degree With Distinction. He continued his academic journey at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio, where he obtained his medical degree. Dr. Carlile then completed a five-year residency in orthopedic surgery at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. To further specialize, he undertook a one-year fellowship in orthopedic trauma surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in affiliation with Drexel University and Temple University Colleges of Medicine.

As an orthopedic traumatologist at OrthoIllinois, Dr. Carlile focuses on the operative treatment of general limb fractures, peri-articular fractures, complex fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum (hip socket), peri-prosthetic fractures, and care for multiply injured patients. His expertise also extends to limb salvage treatments for fracture malunions, nonunions, and infections. Dr. Carlile is dedicated to delivering the highest quality medical care to his patients and has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor after peer nomination and evaluation.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Carlile is passionate about medical education and global health. He has volunteered in underserved countries including Malawi and Ghana, where he taught students, residents, and mid-level healthcare workers how to provide non-operative and minimally operative care in areas lacking hospital access or formally trained orthopedists.

Outside of his professional and volunteer roles, Dr. Carlile enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is an avid enthusiast of live music, golf, skiing, hiking, and socializing with friends.
