Traditional bunion surgery primarily addresses the nature of the bunion bump but not necessarily the joint and bone problems. A new procedure called Lapiplasty® is changing the game for bunion sufferers. Both William Bush, DPM and Kelly John, DPM are certified in this technique by the surgeon who owns the trademark.
Lapiplasty® is referred to as “3D Bunion Correction™” because it addresses all three dimensions of bunion deformity at the source, which is the metatarsophalangeal joint. Check out this video explaining how bunions can make the big toe lean, elevate and rotate, and how Lapiplasty® addresses all three issues.
With Lapiplasty®, the metatarsal bone (above the joint) is fully repaired using special instrumentation. The procedure realigns the bone, and, in the process, removes the bunion bump and straightens the toe. Titanium plates are used to permanently secure the bone and joint.
