Roel Sanchez, MD
Welcome to OrthoIllinois! I would like to take this opportunity to share a little about my background, training, and patient care philosophy.
I come from a family of healthcare providers, and as a child, my dad took me on healthcare brigades where I met many outstanding nurses, dentists, and physicians. Their example of compassionate care sparked my interest in medicine and guides the kind of service I hope to provide for my patients.
I earned my medical degree at the University of Montemoreles, School of Medicine, in Mexico before continuing my studies with a Clinical Research Fellowship at the University of California in San Diego. Upon completion of my fellowship, I pursued three years of residency training in Internal Medicine at San Ysidro Health in San Diego.
During my residency, my interest grew in the specialty of Rheumatology and the recent advances that offered great promise for dramatically improving quality of life for patients. This excited me due to my own firsthand experience with treatments that have helped me and members of my own family. As a practitioner, I find it very gratifying when one of my own patients experiences a similar outcome.
I followed my residency with the additional advanced training of a Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
As a Rheumatologist, my practice is focused on helping patients with Rheumatoid, Osteo-, and other arthritic conditions, osteoporosis, and autoimmune disorders. I have a special interest in Spondyloarthropathies (PsA, IBD-associated arthritis, AS).
I believe as a provider that my main purpose is to improve the quality of life for people with rheumatic conditions. I strive to build long-standing relationships with my patients and work to help educate them on immunological conditions that can sometimes be difficult to understand.
When I am not practicing medicine, I enjoy traveling and discovering new places to hike, bike, eat, and get coffee.
I look forward to working together to help you reduce your pain and regain a more active life.
