Matas Orentas, DO

Dr. Matas Orentas, DO, is a board-certified rheumatologist practicing at OrthoIllinois, a division of OrthoMidwest. Inspired by his family’s experience during his father’s illness and the clarity provided by his father’s medical team, Dr. Orentas developed a passion for medicine and patient-centered care. This formative experience motivated him to pursue a career dedicated to supporting patients and their families through complex health challenges.

Dr. Orentas began his academic journey at Loyola University in Chicago, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology. He continued his medical education at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Midwestern University, in Downers Grove, receiving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Following medical school, he completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center.

Drawn to the complexity and evolving nature of rheumatology, Dr. Orentas chose to further specialize in this field. He appreciates the specialty’s focus on multi-system disease processes, the breadth of treatment options, and the opportunity to build strong, collaborative relationships with his patients. Dr. Orentas completed his Rheumatology Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, where he developed expertise in diagnosing and managing challenging cases, especially when the clinical picture is unclear.

In his current practice, Dr. Orentas provides comprehensive care for osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and autoimmune diseases, with special interests in rheumatoid arthritis and gout. He is committed to fostering strong patient-physician partnerships grounded in mutual trust, respect, and open communication. Dr. Orentas believes that understanding each patient’s unique experiences and treatment goals, combined with the expanding array of therapies for systemic autoimmune diseases, leads to improved satisfaction and outcomes for everyone involved.
