Giovanni Incandela, DPM

Giovanni Incandela, DPM

Dr. Giovanni Incandela, DPM, is a podiatric surgeon practicing at OrthoIllinois, a division of OrthoMidwest. His journey toward a career in podiatric surgery was shaped by two formative early influences. As a child, Dr. Incandela witnessed his mother’s battle with cancer and was deeply moved by the collaborative efforts of the medical team that supported her recovery. This experience instilled in him a profound desire to be part of a team that improves lives and helps people enjoy long, high-quality lives with their loved ones.

His interest in the mechanical aspects of restoration was nurtured by family members who worked in the construction and renovation trades. Dr. Incandela found inspiration in their ability to take nonfunctioning or damaged structures and restore them with skill and dedication. These early influences naturally merged, guiding him toward a medical specialty where he could restore function and encounter a diverse array of conditions and treatments—qualities that podiatric surgery uniquely offered.

Dr. Incandela earned double majors in Biology and Health and Human Sciences with a pre-medicine emphasis, graduating magna cum laude from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He continued his education at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, where he achieved his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine, again graduating magna cum laude. He completed his three-year podiatric surgical residency at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, serving as chief resident and academic coordinator.

At OrthoIllinois, Dr. Incandela treats a comprehensive range of podiatric injuries and conditions, from hammer toes to total rearfoot reconstruction. He has a special interest in total ankle replacement surgery, ankle pathology, reconstruction and revision surgery, advanced arthritic conditions, and Achilles tendon pathology.

A first-generation American from an Italian immigrant family, Dr. Incandela was raised with a strong work ethic and the belief that hard work, pride, heart, and humility are the keys to success. He carries these values into his patient care, considering the relationship between physician and patient to be a sacred bond and approaching each encounter with reverence and dedication.

In addition to his professional calling, Dr. Incandela enjoys playing musical instruments, woodworking, spending time with family, cooking, traveling, and being active in his church community.
