Paul Perona, MD
Thank you for choosing me to provide your orthopedic care. I would like to take this opportunity to share a little about my background, education, and training.
The mechanics of how things work long intrigued Paul Perona, MD, leading him to focus on engineering studies while attending the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his undergraduate degree with Cum Laude honors.
Sports and staying active have always been a part of his life, and combined with a natural mechanical engineering mentality, pursuing a career dealing with the mechanics of the human body was a perfect fit for him. Dr. Perona earned his medical degree at Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, followed by an internship in General Surgery and residency training in Orthopedic Surgery, both also at Loyola University of Chicago.
During medical training, Dr. Perona had the opportunity to work with and co-author a number of research papers with Wayne Proprosky, MD, who played a major role in his specific interest in total joint reconstruction. To gain this additional subspecialized training, he completed an Adult Joint Reconstruction Fellowship at University of California in San Diego, at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
As an OrthoIllinois physician providing care through OSF HealthCare, Dr. Perona’s practice today focuses on primary and revision joint replacements of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He utilizes the assistance of MAKO robotics for hip and knee replacements, trains and certifies other surgeons on MAKO robotic use, and looks forward to the use of this amazing technology for shoulder replacements in the future.
Dr. Perona believes in treating his patients with a compassionate and Christian mentality; treating each as he would want to be treated, as if they were his family or close friend. He looks forward to extending this same care to you in helping you to return to a more active and pain-free life.
