ALGONQUIN, Ill. (August 3, 2020) – Sports medicine specialist Dr. Cort Lawton will join the medical team at OrthoIllinois, a leading bone and joint provider in northern Illinois beginning August 20, 2020.

Dr. Lawton specializes in surgical procedures related to injuries and conditions of the hip, knee, and shoulder, with a special focus on shoulder arthroplasty for tendon and rotator cuff repair. In his practice, he treats both youth and adults.

Growing up in a small town and being active in wrestling and boxing, Dr. Lawton developed an interest in medicine and decided to pursue the career because of his passion to help motivated athletes overcome their injuries and return to their sports.

Dr. Lawton graduated medical school from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Sciences: Chicago Medical School and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern University Fienberg School of Medicine. In addition, he solidified his subspecialty by completing a sports medicine fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He has served as a sports surgeon in the Chicago area for the Chicago Blackhawks, NBA Combine, NCAA Division Men’s Basketball Tournament, Ken Kraft Midlands Wrestling Championships, and Chicago public high school and youth football.

“I understand what it is like to be injured and what it takes to recover and return to play,” he said. “My own athletic background guided not only my career choice, but also my care philosophy modeling the passion and example provided by the sports medicine physicians who treated me. I am dedicated to my patients and they can feel confident that I will always be in their corner working to help them meet their return to competition goals or desired activities.”

Dr. Lawton is accepting new patients at the OrthoIllinois Algonquin Clinic, 650 S. Randall Road. Call 815-398-9491 for more information or to make an appointment.
