OrthoIllinois McHenry Clinic Physician Has Close Ties to Region
Dr. Pradeep Raju will be one of the faces at our new OrthoIllinois McHenry Clinic, and he carries a strong connection to the area.
He was raised in Crystal Lake, having graduated from Prairie Ridge High School. His father was a cardiologist at McHenry Hospital – now known as Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital – for nearly 40 years and started the catheterization (cath) lab at the facility.
In fact, Dr. Raju is the youngest of three brothers who all followed in their father’s footsteps and went into medicine. Dr. Raju specializes in sports medicine and urgent care at our OrthoIllinois Algonquin Clinic, and his brothers work in cardiology and emergency medicine in Downers Grove and Sterling, respectively.
Dr. Raju’s father passed away in 2017 and the cardiac area at the McHenry hospital was dedicated in his memory.
“Dad was kind of the pioneer for cardiology in this area,” Dr. Raju recalled. “Our patients in Algonquin will recognize my name because our family name has been in the area for so long.
“We never knew the work side of dad – just the home side. Hearing the stories of how much patients loved him, it’s definitely a motivating factor. The challenge is we can never fill his footsteps or replace his legacy, but I want to have that name remain in this area for a long time.”
Dr. Raju, who will split his time seeing patients at our McHenry and Algonquin clinics, is excited to bring expanded access to bone and joint care to the region, especially for surrounding communities such as Johnsburg, Bull Valley, Richmond, Crystal Lake, Woodstock and many others.
“The McHenry Clinic will reduce the drive time for many patients in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin,” he said. “We can address nonsurgical sports injuries, rheumatology is always a need, and people will have closer access to all our OrthoIllinois orthopedic specialists.”
McHenry will offer rheumatology, nonoperative sports medicine, and physical therapy services, as well as an Injury Express clinic for walk-in, urgent orthopedic injuries and conditions. The clinic opens Aug. 3 and is accepting rheumatology appointments for September.
